Catching public transport

Public transport is a great way to safely get to and from school.

Catching a bus

Morning Routine - Our students disembark in bus bays 4 to 7 and walk along the front path into school.

Afternoon Routine - Children travelling by bus must assemble under the COLA in bus lines.  Teachers escort them onto the buses.

Bus routes can be obtained through Port Stephens Coaches

Apply for a travel pass

Eligible students can get a free travel pass under the School Student Transport Scheme.

School Opal card can be used:

• Only on school days between the student’s home and School.

• For travel between 06:30 and 19:00 weekdays (21:30 for TAFE school students).

What is the purpose of a School Opal Card?

The School Opal card gives eligible students free or discounted travel between home and school using metro, train, bus, ferry and light rail services you nominate in your application. Additionally, it is essential to demonstrate to Transport for NSW that students are boarding and alighting at specific bus stops. Without the use of an Opal card, TNSW may interpret this as a lack of student usage at certain stops, which could lead to the removal of that section of the bus route.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible a student must be a resident of NSW plus:

• Years K-2 (Infants) There is no minimum distance.

• Years 3-6 (Primary) More than 1.6km straight line distance or at least 2.3km walking.

• Years 7-12 (Secondary) More than 2.0km straight line distance or at least 2.9km walking.

How to apply

Step 1 Once the new school has confirmed your child’s enrolment, complete the application at transportnsw.info/school-students

Step 2 The school endorses your application.

Step 3 Once Transport for NSW has approved the application, a School Opal card will be sent to the address provided on the application.

Driving and parking

The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.

When driving and parking near our school, please:

Parking on school grounds

The staff carpark and roads within the school site are controlled by Port Stephens Council.

Their Rangers make spot checks and fines are imminent if you are parked in the wrong place or doing the wrong thing.

During the day visitors to our school are able to park in bus bays 1 to 7 between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm. The “Stop and Drop” zone is at bus bay 1-3 between 7.30am —9.30 am.

NO PARKING in the yellow zone at any time without authorisation (opposite side of the road to the bus bays), or the Special Education parking area.

Please note that road safety signs are provided to assist you with our routines.

Boom gates operate in the staff carpark on school days between 8.30 am and 2.00 pm. Entry must be authorised. After 2.00 pm the boom gate opens and parents are able to park in the carpark – if there are available spaces only. Please reverse into spaces in the car park.

Keel Street rear entrance

The school can also be accessed via the rear entrance on Keel Street, Salamander Bay.

Please observe all No Parking and No Stopping signs, and adhere to council regulations and any posted restrictions.

We recommend parking on Bagnall Beach Road and walking to the gates for drop-off and pick-up.

The gates are closed during school hours.
